These Terms are the agreement between you and the developer of Thali. The sections most likely to matter to you are 5 (what the estimates are and are not), 6 (subscriptions and trials) and 7 (how much you can use the AI features in a day).
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Upwan Chachra, an individual developer based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada ("Thali", "we", "us", "our"), governing your use of the Thali mobile application (the "App"). By downloading, accessing or using the App you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the App. By using it you represent that you are 18 or older. The App is not intended for and may not be used by anyone under 18, and the app blocks account creation when the date of birth you enter indicates otherwise.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the App on Apple devices that you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
Thali is a calorie and nutrition tracking app. It uses artificial intelligence and third-party nutrition databases to identify foods from text and photos, estimate their nutrition, break composed dishes into their ingredients, and track your logs, weight and goals over time. Features may change, be added, or be removed over time.
Thali estimates the nutritional content of foods using AI and third-party databases. These estimates are approximations and may be inaccurate or incomplete. Every entry carries a confidence score precisely because the numbers are estimates rather than measurements.
Thali is not a medical device and does not provide medical, nutritional, dietary or health advice, diagnosis or treatment. The App is for general informational and self-tracking purposes only. Do not rely on it for medical decisions. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian before changing your diet, exercise or health regimen, or if you have any medical condition or dietary restriction, including allergies.
Do not rely on Thali to tell you whether a food is safe for you to eat. Ingredient breakdowns are estimates of nutrition, not allergen or dietary-compliance declarations. If you have a food allergy, or follow a religious or medical dietary restriction, check the actual product or ask the person who prepared the food.
If you have concerns about your eating habits or your relationship with food, please consider reaching out to a qualified healthcare professional for support. Your use of the App's estimates is at your own risk.
Thali offers an optional premium subscription, purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase system and managed with RevenueCat. Monthly and annual plans are available.
The price shown to you in the App and on the App Store at the time of purchase is the price that applies. Prices vary by region and currency and may change over time. We deliberately do not restate a figure here, because a number written into this document could only ever fall out of step with the store. The App reads live prices from the App Store and displays them before you buy.
We may offer a free trial on a plan. Where one is offered, its length and your eligibility for it are determined by Apple, not by us. Apple grants an introductory offer once per subscription group per Apple ID, so if you have already used a free trial for Thali on your Apple ID, you will not receive another one, and a new subscription will be charged in full immediately.
The App checks your eligibility with the App Store before you purchase and shows you the actual terms of the offer you are being given. If a trial applies and you do not cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, it converts automatically to a paid subscription and your Apple ID is charged.
The AI features cost real money to run, so they carry limits. These apply to every account, including paid subscriptions, and we would rather you learned them here than by hitting one.

We may adjust these limits as running costs change. If we reduce them materially we will say so in the App. Attempting to work around them, whether by automation, multiple accounts, or otherwise, is a breach of section 8.
You agree to provide accurate information, keep your login credentials secure, and use the App only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:
You retain ownership of the content you submit, including your food logs, meal photos, dish names and notes. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and process that content solely in order to operate the App's features for you. That includes sending a meal photo or a food query to our AI providers for analysis, as described in the Privacy Policy.
To avoid paying an AI model to answer the same question twice, we keep a shared cache of food lookups. This licence therefore also permits us to retain the text of a food query you type, together with its nutrition result, in a cache that is shared with other users and serves the same query to them.
That cache is keyed by the query text and records nothing about who typed it, which is why it survives the deletion of your account. Because the key is the text you typed, do not put personal details into a food search. It covers typed queries only. It does not extend to your photos, your logs, your weight history, your notes, or anything else connected to you. Privacy Policy section 6 describes the same arrangement from the privacy side, and tells you how to have a specific entry removed.
You are responsible for the content you submit.
The App, including its design, code and branding, is owned by us and protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the licence granted in section 3, we reserve all rights. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the App without our permission.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT NUTRITION ESTIMATES WILL BE ACCURATE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON NUTRITION ESTIMATES OR YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND CAD $50. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses arising out of your misuse of the App, or your violation of these Terms, of any law, or of any third-party right.
You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time, in Settings under Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or misuse the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including the disclaimers, the limitation of liability, and governing law, will survive. Remember that deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription; see section 6.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you in the App. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the courts located in Calgary, Alberta will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts. Nothing in these Terms removes any mandatory consumer protection right you have where you live.
